Nihangs at Kasail: Punjab

Having just finished a display of tent pegging the Nihangs make their way back to their camp. The old village of Kasail, about 10 miles out side Amritsar is an interesting and historic place. Firstly, according to Hindu mythology it is Lord Ram's mother's village and secondly, is the site of one of the four most important Shiva temples in India. Furthermore, the water from the well of this temple was said to alleviate Ranjit Singh's stomach ailment and he had it transported daily by camel to his headquarters in Lahore.

I can feel the air and hear the movement. Beautiful photo of cultural India. Spiritually significant landscapes are rarely photographed with such sensitivity. Wonderfully done, thanks.
