Monks return across flooded fields with grass for their cows: Majuli, Assam
During the monsoon season the land surrounding the monastery floods making life difficult for the monks and their livestock. The cows, which normally graze freely throughout the day, are confined to their shelters on small patches of slightly raised ground. The younger monks punt across waterlogged fields twice daily to cut grass.
