A young monk has his makeup applied: Majuli, Assam

To mark significant days in their religous calendar the monks perform dances and theatrical pieces from the Hindu epics. On this occasion the monk, with others, will perform the Chali dance, a female dance, which in its playfulness will imitate the gopi's enchantment by Lord Krishna in the fields of Brindhavan.
